Staying at Dan's house…

I’ve been here at Dan’s house for around three weeks now and this trip there isn’t much to fix. Last year I fixed 28 or so items that weren’t working or were broken or miss applied that my brother hadn’t had time or skill to do much about.

This time there really isn’t anything new. Everything I fixed last time is still fixed. Not much to do. And since he flipped the little Ford Escort I put the engine in last time I was here, there’s no wheels for me to use so I’m kind of stuck in the house all day. I could walk down to the strip mall but couldn’t carry much back.

In other words, I’m getting bored. I might head up to Death Valley and hang out there for a couple weeks. Don’t know yet. The fuel price is soooo bad, over $3 per gallon of diesel, that I have to really think about my next destination and plan so I save as much fuel as I can. ‘Course to offset the cost, I could hang in one place longer, and it helps if it’s free. Like at Dan’s place it doesn’t cost me anything. And where I’m going next month, Lake Tahoe, I’ll get free parking for the rig for 6 weeks. It’s volunteer work for the forest service so I get a free site. I could extend my stay too.

I don’t have any plans after that except maybe head up to Portland, Oregon and visit friends for a couple weeks. Then maybe over to northern Idaho to try and find a piece of land to park on during the summer. I don’t know. I do know that the fuel prices won’t stop my travels, just put a crimp in them.

Let me know where you think I should go…comments are “ON”.

I know about being ‘bored’ buddy. Can’t wait to get outta VA. Lets see if we can plan on some stuff down Mexico way for the summer or even BAJA….I’m kinda game for having a cohort to RV with some time.
I’ll keep working on my Blog also

i’d suggest a trip up north to canada, but the fuel prices here are no better and probably worse than in the usa. however, the american dollar can buy a fair bit here. you might even convince a canadian to say “eh” for you.

So break some shit, if there’s nothing to fix. Eh?

  4. I looked into purchasing biodiesel but near me it’s still higher than reg. diesel!

Thanks for the comments folks, my host has been down for several days and these comments just showed up so I’m a little late noticing them.

Naomi, I was in Toronto last fall and the prices there were bad…lot’s higher for the stuff I buy compared to the US. I’ll try again later this year though. Mom was born there so I’m no stranger to Canada.

I’ve been trying to break shit but it’s hard for me…being a fixer not a breaker.

Biodiesel in Portland, Oregon just made the news yesterday because it was $0.07 cheaper then diesel. Won’t last though.

    Thanks for the comments.

Was checking out “shock” thread and saw your posted Blog site. Kinda neat.
Lake Tahoe is a favorite area of ours. My sister lived there for quite a few years and got married in the Yacht club. We spent a week there in a rented
house up the mountain from YC owned by the principal of highschool where my brother taught in Pleasanton. Had a great time that week and was back this past winter to visit sister who now lives in Reno with husband and daughter. Drove up to Jackson,CA from wintering in Apache Junction and came up I-5. Went back via 88 to 395 and if you haven’t driven 395 you must
some day. Great road on top of the world. Got off to 95 via 168 and 266. More great scenic roads, altho not RV friendly, 168 is auto only. Thanks for the shock comments, will be helpful. Steve

Thx for the info and kind words Steve. I go up there every year now to volunteer at the Tallac Historic Site. I love that area. – J
