C: Engine…

These links apply to the engine and engine accessories. The engine is a Cat CFE 7.2L, 330 HP, Model 3126e. It is diesel of course and uses around 22 quarts of oil. The radiator (covered in a different section of this blog) uses special Cat purple long life coolant available these days on the shelves of nearly all auto stores or at least at NAPA.

I don’t need it at present, but I’m dropping a link to an external fuel pump that would likely work with my fuel system, here: External Fuel Pump

The following links go to articles about the various items I’ve had to have work done on.

Fan Hub Bearing…

Belt Tensioner—what it should look like when running…  This link went to a Youtube video but youtube broke it for copy right reasons with no link to it’s new place and I can’t find it now in Oct. 2020. It was a side by side comparison of the belt with the engine running at idle…one side the tensioner was bouncing a little, not good. The other side was smooth as silk. So crawl under the rig with the engine running and check that out. Easy way to decide whether it’s time to replace the tensioner or not.

Here’s a picture of the Cat 3126e engine without the radiator or the fan in the way. This picture also shows the optional fan hub grease zerk extension. The factory doesn’t install that item, the end user does. It makes it easier to lube the fan hub as it’s nearly impossible to reach when the engine is in an RV, it’s hard to see but it’s that black tube connecting to a silver metal tube in the center of the engine above the fan hub:

And a picture of the Turbo and exhaust side of the engine…drivers side in my case, the arrow is pointing to something important I’m sure:

And here’s a drawing that shows some stuff I’m sure I’ll need to know some day…

And here’s a video of the 3126 showing the main components and trouble spots:
