The next morning, May 18th, I leave Clinton around 8am and head on to Hixon. The countryside is reminiscent of the western section of Washington, before you cross through the Cascades to the west slope. The weather was comfortable, with plenty of sunshine.
You don’t see much traffic in this part of the country. But that suits me fine. I like long lonely roads.
I passed through this little town just before 9am. Didn’t see any reason to stop but I suppose it has it’s charm. Only 179 kilometers to Hixon. And 239 to Prince George.
Around 3:30pm, I find the RV park I’m looking for and quickly set up, get on my bike and explore the town. The park is too far from the little town so I only put 3-4 miles on the bike. I was an all downhill ride, but I didn’t want to get to far down toward town because the ride back would, of course, be all uphill. I just settled for an evening at home. Too far from any TV stations, I just read my books, and played on the web.
The WiFi worked perfectly here, without me doing anything to my equipment.
The next morning, 8:15am, May 18th, I’m back on the road heading north. The weather had turned a little and it was cool, cloudy and wet here and there.
The pink overcast in the picture is a camera problem, if I bang the camera against my palm, the pink goes away.
The lodge was surrounded by a small pond, but it was probably dry this spring, which accounts for it’s abandoned, dry, look. I didn’t hear any slaps of the tail on the pond when I approached and didn’t see any recent tree moving or cutting activity so I think the beavers abandoned this site earlier in the year.
You can see how the water line has receded. Like the place was abandoned by the beavers.
Notice the bridge decking is wood. That’s pretty common up here in the North, even for newer bridges because wood doesn’t shrink or expand as much as metal and it tolerates the severe cold, wet, and occasionally, heat, better then metal, cement or asphalt. I’m wondering how plastic decking would do in this type of application.
I’ll add some more tomorrow.
Ah yes… finally an animal.
We know how Jim enjoys the wild life! (LOL)
