More fun in Maz…

Sunset from Olas Atlas, Mazatlan, Mx.

I visited my friend Stacy at her hotel on Olas Atlas several times. We’d wander around and enjoy ourselves with this and that. She’s an artist so we’d often wander into art galleries to check out the art. Looking doesn’t cost much but there were a couple pieces I’d have loved to have had…if I had a sticks & bricks home instead of a small RV. Nowhere to put anything. This particular evening, there was a sidewalk festival going on with a comedy act, food, music from several areas and plenty to see and do.

Stacy enjoying the music.

We eventually wandered to the heart of old downtown and had an absolutely perfect steak dinner. Incredible. And, before dinner, we ordered some coffee drinks with brandy and the guy poured the burning brandy into our cups from a height above our heads. Very cool. But…the coffee was so strong, couldn’t get to sleep that night until very late. Watched movies until around 3am. Wasn’t till next morning we figured out the reason.

Like all Mexican towns big and small, Maz has a central plaza that has the ubiquitous Catholic Church off on one side then many government buildings surrounding the plaza. Over the years, as the towns grow, the government usually moves to nicer accommodations and the old buildings are turned over to commercial uses.  Here in Maz, the plaza has several restaurants and small shops surrounding it. Church is still there and once I saw the aftermath of a wedding there. It took 2-3 hundred years and millions of Mexican’s murders by the Spanish for the church to ‘convince’ the people that Christianity was the religion of ‘love’. Bah.

Fountain all colored up for the festival.

More fountain.

I do enjoy all the public art that’s all over Mexico. It does tend to brighten up the rather dull surroundings. That’s true in many places all over the world, where some public money is dedicated to art. I’ve found that the USA is a little behind in supporting public art.

And another piece of public art.

Some of you might be wondering about our wandering around the streets at night in Mexico. Well, we never thought of any danger coming our way, never saw anything that unusual or frightening either. Lot’s of happy people just hanging out trying to make the best of a bad situation.

The comedy juggling act. All in Spanish so I didn’t get it. Crowd loved it though.

I spent the night in Stacy’s hotel rooms spare bed. I ain’t afraid of no ghosts. Next morning, took a pulmania back to my RV and spent the rest of the day recovered from the revelry.
