After a couple days of meeting and greeting the few RV’ers at California Trailer Park in Mazatlan, shopping a bit, and enjoying a delicious dinner at my favorite quick Taco Loco, I wandered into the Golden Zone to have a look around. The RV park is at the Southern end of the GZ less then a block from the ocean. I didn’t know what was going on. The San Carlos RV park was packed, but Maz seemed to be nearly empty of tourists. What had I missed in the news? Asked around, but no one knew where all the tourists were this year. But, it has been getting worse and worse every year. Fewer and fewer tourists. Sad. So many jobs gone. Lots of closed businesses.
Such a nice area, so few tourists.
Compared to years past, this is a disaster for many businesses.
Yea, it’s early afternoon, but still, this joint used to be a favored hang out for the local expats and long term visitors. Now look at it. It used to be the Purple Onion, now it’s the Three Amigos. Some of the same bar tenders so that’s good.
I probably came by too early. Maybe it’ll get busy later tonight? Well, I didn’t come down here for the night life anyway, so, doesn’t matter I guess. I feel bad for all the workers that don’t have jobs now though.
Had my choice of parking spots. When I first arrived, there were perhaps 5-6 RVs here. Over the next couple weeks, it dwindled down to just the two of us. Weather was perfect as always.
I like places I stay at to be quiet and not to crowded, but this is ridiculous. No one to talk to as Tom and his wife volunteer most days. I’d do that myself, but I’m arranging for some painting and body work on the RV. And when I got a crew working, I’d have to watch them like a hawk as they were just on the edge of being incompetent. Ended up with a fairly good job though. They have no tools! How they figured on doing the body work is a mystery. When they gave me the quote, I had no idea they were going to try to use a carpenters hammer and a flat blade screw driver to do body work. Once I got them straightened out on how they should do things, loaned them some tools, and after I did some of the damaged storage door work myself, they did a fairly good job. I now have all the plastic surrounds stripped, primed, and repainted. All the damage repaired. Several metal pieces that were rusting out replaced. And the damaged corner piece remade, painted, and installed. So, other then the fact that I couldn’t get Juan to come back and repair his bad work from last year for free, I’m happy. Helped the local economy.
When I had all the work done, started planning my trip to Copper Canyon. Next time, that’s where we’re going. See you then!
