Hanging in Pahrump…

Here I sit in Pahrump, Nevada, with it only 56 F outside, but sunshine, trying to decide if there’s somewhere I can drive just to get out of the house. It’s Dec. 31, 2020 and like millions/billions of others, really looking forward to the end of 2020. I’m very happy to be relatively healthy mindful of the two ER visits due to my prostate, the bad knees I’ve developed since April of 2019, the new sore heels I’ve developed just a few weeks ago, and the other signs of aging. I did feel I had a few close calls with something, while going shopping in several stores in 5 states, always wearing my home made mask with the paper insert, there have been a couple scares health wise concerning Covid-19. At least 5 times since February of this year I’ve felt something coming on, dry cough, mild headache, lethargy, soreness, but in each and every case, I could feel my immune system stomping whatever it was. So as a result, I’ve not had any health issues for more than a few days that appeared to mimic Covid. In one case, just 6 hours after it began I felt fine, weak, but fine.

Because of things, I didn’t post many pictures from either Nov. or Dec. These following are the only ones I took in Dec. 2020 that didn’t get trashed.  And by that I mean I did have a few of after the trip down from M-F to Pahrump as you saw in the last blog posting, but something happened to the SD card I think, and the ones I had after that trip all disappeared. Probably when my computer crashed and I needed an SD card to restore the drive. Well, too bad. I do have copies up on the Blog site of some of the missing ones so I’ll try to copy those back down to my computer as a backup. Don’t need them really once I’ve published but my brain makes me want to have backups here on my home computer.

Here’s a few of today’s shots around the Preferred RV Resort in Pahrump, NV. I’m settled into space #104. Note that I had to skooch up from under the tree branch that was blocking my DTV reception. That branch and other trees across the street, but eventually, found the sweet spot. Sure glad they have soooooo much room here. I could park the car behind the RV if I wanted but what’s shown is more convenient.

And here’s a look at today’s sky. Pretty nice. No snow over on the hills as I expected so I suspect these daily 50’s & 60’s temps are keeping it melted.

Looking over towards the gated entrance to the park.

And there’s the backside of the nearby casino, the Nugget. One of two very close casinos. They basically surround this RV park. The other one is across from that one on this same street.

Off to the North is the mountain that designates the edge of town. And here in the foreground is the propane station and today the price is $1.75/gallon. Pretty darn good. I saw it up to $3.10/gallon on the trip down.

Out behind the RV park are acres and acres of BLM land, unmarked. So people dry camp out there and use this RV park to dump and fill their water tank. It’s under $10 I believe. I drove out there and there’s just 8 motor homes set up this winter. Come spring though, there’ll be dozens of RVs out there. This land is within waking distance of a couple casinos, several fast food restaurants, and a nice store. And as I mentioned, the dump and water fill here. So dry camping here is pretty easy if you have solar.

The big thing this year, aside from Covid-19, was my prostate and the two ER visits that caused but I’m well on the way to getting that permanently taken care of with laser surgery. Next on the list would be knee surgery I suppose. Probably in late 2021.

I really had planned a trip over to NYC by train for April even going so far as making connections with residents who are friends of friends, but alas, I was talked out of it because of Covid. I hadn’t put money down on anything so didn’t have to worry about that. Maybe I’ll do that trip fall of 2021 if the vaccine gives us herd immunity, but with 50% insisting they’re not going to take it, I might end up in Europe instead…if they let Americans in. I am also itching to take a boat ride down the Nile I’ve read about. They range from a few hundred to $5500. Have collected lots of links to information and a trip to Egypt and a Nile cruise really looks like fun. Chomping at the bit for that trip. But that’s all on the back burner as they say, probably 2023 for that one.

It really is a nice day here today but the sun is now hidden by clouds. It’s now to 55 F as it nears 2:30, so yeah, I think I’ll take that drive. But tomorrow, around 10 AM. I know this post is short, but there’s not much to report and I wanted to end the year with a posting. So thanks for reading, hope you and yours have a great 2021!!!

Great info, keep up the good work and good by old year. Dennis.

Thanks for reading, Dennis! And yeah, goodbye and good riddance to 2020!

Just don’t let them do radiation for the prostate. I just lost my brother to bladder cancer that they say was an ultimate result of that about 12 years ago. And he suffered much the last few years trying to battle the result of “burn” scar tissue at the bladder neck. Even after they stopped chemo early a year ago because it killed his appetite, he still wouldn’t eat. He essentially emaciated to death within 6 months. Avoid radiation.

I don’t know for sure about the various procedures but the Dr. up in Walla Walla did the exam and said he didn’t think I have cancer and recommended laser surgery so AFAIK there won’t be any radiation.

Now as to knee surgery, our niece near Twin Falls (part of my wife’s Hagerman family) had both knees done a couple years ago and she’s like new. She’s an extremely active, unmarried, 70ish ranch girl with horses, exotic birds, a new John Deere farmstead maintenance tractor, and a new “Spyder” for rockin’ the dunes. I think a lot depends on the surgeon. She was up and walking almost immediately.

I’m looking forward to having that done, but the VA moves slowly.

Here’s our wish for great results from both of your medical ventures in the new year. It could only be better overall than 2020, huh?

Boy, I sure hope so. Looking forward to getting back to normal.
