More from Tucson…

Still here in Tucson, and we’re into May. But, one thing I’ve noticed as time passes is that my vision seems to be getting better. If I have both eyes open, and look off into the distance, it’s getting so the clarity is better than if I have the left eye closed. So that’s good. Might mean that my vision will clear up eventually. Google searching of medical sites indicates it can take up to 6 months for that to happen, and I’m pleased that my eye seems ahead of schedule. Of course it could possible never get to the point where I see clearly out of both eyes. We’ll see (pun intended).

So back tracking, back in January, John and I visited the local gem show, which I understand is huge! Similar to what they put on in Quartzsite in January but I was informed that this one is much much bigger. I have no idea. Anyway, we visited the show, and it is quite interesting so I gots bunches of pictures. Enjoy. After we parked, they were setting something up in this field. I forget what. The show is over there in those white buildings.

Above are some nifty fossils. Surprising I didn’t buy one but I don’t have much room for rocks in the RV. I do love rocks but I’m not a nut about it. So generally I have no idea what I’m looking at other than they are interesting or pretty.

Some of them are gorgeous and would look excellent in a huge rec room or something. Or perhaps near an outside pool. Dunno what I’d do with any of them though.

That table with the crystal in it is impressive.

That vase is quite the thing. Where would you put that if you aren’t rich with a many thousand square foot mansion?

I did look for something to buy but, well, nothing caught my eye. Purdy stuff though, mostly. This next box of rocks reminded me of copper ore.

Just think of all the work that went into mining, cleaning, cutting, polishing, and finally displaying these things hoping that someone would think one if them was just pretty enough to buy. Some of these dealers had thousands of stones all ready.

Shiny! Some pretty neat rocks here but there are so many of them readily available, I wonder why some consider them to be so valuable?

So that was the visit to the Tucson Gem Show for 2022. They have these shows every year and then there are gem stone dealers all over the place around town. This is the granddaddy though. It’s bigger than Quartzsite, I guess.

After all that walking, my knees were a bit tired and it was after 4 PM so John and I stopped at the Copper Coin, er, Copper Mine brew pub for quaffing a beer or two.

And here we are, see all the happy people?

I tried unsuccessfully to pay with a handful of pennies but they weren’t having it.
Not a bad day here in Tucson. BTW, it was shirt sleeve weather all day. In the 70’s F.

This post will be a bit short since it’s so heavy with pictures. Hope you enjoyed the visit to the gem show. See you next time, and thanks for reading…

Jim

Just noticed summer rate at Desert Trails RV Park off Ajo on San Joaquin is down to $600 a month with all hookups. Phoenix owners are jerks, but on site manager, Jessie, is very nice. We’re hoping to get back down there by December. Still cool and very wet here in Vancouver, WA.

There’s another RV park further out west of Tucson off of Ajo that I’ve checked out and it’s monthly is under $500. Hmm, just checked google and I don’t see it listed. I happened to pass by when I was exploring last month and stopped in to check it out…not sure they have a web presence. I talked to the owner and it’s a nice smaller park, offering free laundry so that’s nice. It is way out there though. Quite a ways from shopping and eateries. If I need to stay there, I’ll have to find it again in my car…pretty sure that won’t be too hard.

The art thing with the goat leashed to it made me laugh. All this crazy rock stuff and then SURPRISE GOAT!

Pretty sure it’s a GUARD GOAT. I may have heard it hissing as I approached. Or not.

Copper Mine Ales…and pennies..I get it!

And here I tried to be subtle with that pun.

I love rocks and have some purty ones I’ve never paid for, found.
Keep Lucy and Ricky in mind when thinking about stuffing rocks in the R.V.

I love rocks too, but the problem I have is that I just don’t have room for a collection of them in my RV. When I decided to go full timing, I had to sell my house and my rock collection had to go. Had a Trilobite fossil from the Grand Canyon. And other rocks, but a small collection I’d picked up off the ground over the years while hiking.

I don’t remember rocks in that movie, maybe I’ll check it out. I have a Roku channel that’s all old movies for free so I should be able to find it.
