Several days after my last attempt at golfing, Dawn learned about it and wanted to go out to play too. So, another golf trip with me, Mike, Sue, and Dawn. As it happened, Sue was a bit uncomfortable when Dawn tagged along. She met us there at the course…I suspected Sue thought we were BF and GF and didn’t want to be an interference. Not true of course, just friends. Dawn just got married a couple months before and she’s waiting for her new husband to show up in San Felipe, meanwhile, she enjoys my company.
So what happened is that Sue and Mike sort of begged off at the first hole opting to play the front nine while Dawn and I played the back nine. Here’s Dawn getting ready to play…shoes must be changed.
Over there is the clubhouse and the courtyard. I picked up a golf cart. Cart and 9 holes for $20. Lots of dry grass barely surviving. Roadrunners hang out here on the course
She’s actually left handed but a few years ago her now husband talked her into learning to play with right handed clubs. She wanted me to take some shots of her playing to send to him and I said sure, as long as she sets up in a natural pose…left handed. Heh. Yep, I’m a stinker. The next weekend, went out to the Saturday swap meet. Didn’t stay long. I think that’s Santa Claus. Took the pic to show the price here in Mexico. It’s sort of a street ready dune buggy. Seats four. The vehicle was listed at $4450 USD. Yikes. They are handy though if you’re a sand racer, like to cruise the dunes or the beach. You can drive them all over town too. Cops don’t bother them even though they are unlicensed.
Couple nights later, went over to Fat Boys to have a Pina Colada. And dinner. The staff know me there since I come in so often. They have the Gringo breakfast special every weekend which is great. Good food all the time so I’ve had dinner there several times. And the breakfast.
This is the new bar area. The owner bought (or leased?) the space next door to his old bar, chopped a hole in the wall, and built a new bar. The old bar is gone, replaced with tables and chairs for meals. Now that they’ve expanded the square footage there’s more room for that.
Here’s where the old bar ‘used’ to be. Right along this wall would have been the back bar. And Philippe says hi! Next morning I got up a bit early and took some dawn pictures over the park. Went down the street to that abandoned shopping mall that is being refurbished to check on the progress. Just a fun thing to do. It’s an easy bike ride from the RV park.I sure hope the mall owners donate to get the frontage road rebuilt.
This is that small strip mall just across the street from the construction. If that mall takes off, the bar there is going to do great.
Here’s the southern concourse of the new mall. This is a refurbishment as the skeleton of the mall has been reused. I don’t know the history of the old setup, when I first started coming to San Felipe it was already falling into decay. I couldn’t tell if it had ever been used as a shopping mall, it appeared as though it had not.
A few days later, I got bored so I drove 6 miles north of San Felipe and turned off the highway into the gringo area that helped start the whole thing here of gringos moving down to Mexico. There’s still some older houses, but most here in this area are new. These pics are from the west side of the main highway, Mx-5. On the east side of the highway even more dwellings. And the ocean is over on that side too.
Oh, a RV just like mine. Same year almost. Some of the landscaping is really nice. And soon enough I had exhausted the views in that area so time to head back home… What’s this? Seems as though a local ON THE BEACH had her purse stolen. Now the police are not allowed into this RV park unless invited so they had to get permission to enter. Hmm. It seemed fake to me, maybe having something to do with harassing the owner. It was around this time that I happened to notice that my drivers license was going to expire soon. Damn. I wanted to stay here until it got too hot in May or so. I made the mistake of contacting my Mexican insurance guy, and he tells me my insurance is null and void if my license expires. 2X damn.
So I said my goodbyes and got ready to leave San Felipe. More next post…
Guess I’ll miss you again this year, packing now for a Thursday/Friday arrival in San Felipe. Back-in-the-day the old mall was to have a movie theater, not sure if it ever opened. Great pictures of of the town and beach.
Sorry about that, I look forward to meeting readers but doesn’t look like this is the year I’ll get to meet you, Jeff. Have a good time there in SF. Thanks for the compliment too.
Some tall Saguaro cacti there. Had heard they get tall as trees.
Dune buggies. always wanted a VW Baja. Maybe someday. I agree that the UTVs are overpriced.
Driver’s license. Mine expires in Sept. CDL Class A. If heading to the southwest US, will I get a license there or return to here?
Jealousy has little place in friendship. She should get over it. Safe trips, Jim.
They do. But the saguaro I see from the roadway in this area aren’t that impressive so not many pictures.
I would like to own a Dune buggy myself, the thing is though, I’m still not ready to settle in one place and return to it year after year. So buying one there and storing it wouldn’t be reasonable. I could rent one though.
Ya, licenses expiring can be a bitch if you travel full time. The Oregon license is good for 8 years, so it’s easy to forget about.
Sue wasn’t jealous. She was trying to be discrete or unobtrusive I guess. It just wasn’t necessary.
